Makuru

Traditional African Music
in a contemporary dance setting

Makuru is created by Peter Warren and features Mandjou Kone, renowned African singer, dancer and Griot from Burkina Faso, and Mali West Africa.

She shares the rich cultural Herritage of West Africa through traditional music, dance and storytelling performances. She has performed with Mickey Hart of The Grateful Dead and many other luminaries in the tradition of world music.

Makuru features top Bay Area world musicians on bass, guitar, drum set and traditional African instruments.
Special guests who have joined Makuru on stage include Joan Baez and Miriam Diakite.

Makuru is an annual favorite at the Creek Park Summer Festival in San Anselmo CA and the Berkeley Bay Festival in Berkeley CA.

Here, lead singer Mondjou Kone  leads the audience in West African dance moves to the delight of participants of all ages.

“High energy and so much fun to dance to!”
